Testing Role Configuration
Once a role and its security settings have been set up, it needs to be tested to ensure that the correct options are available to users with that role.
Note: Users with a role cannot be impersonated. To test, you will need to log in as an example user with that role.
Logging in as a Test User
Create a test user account and log in with that account.
- Log in using your staff credentials.
-
Create a non-staff user to use in testing. Ensure that the Create a User Profile check-box is selected during creation.
-
Assign the test user the new role you want to test.
The next step is to log in as the newly created test user. It's useful to remain logged into your own account while logging in as the test user, to test and access staff settings while working as a non-staff person in another window. To do this, you must be logged into the instance of Impexium via two different browser sessions.
-
Open a new browser window.
Example: If you're logged in via Firefox (Window A), open a different browser such a Chrome (Window B) and log in as the test user there. Another method is to open an incognito or private browsing tab in the same browser currently being used.
Either method allows you to remain logged in as yourself and also log in as the test user. -
Log in as the test user. Verify that, with the new role, they can access all of the functionality the role is intended to impart. If you encounter any gaps, return to Users > Security, and add the correct permissions to the new role. Contact support@impexium.com for assistance if necessary.
Tip: If the role is edited, you'll need to log out and back in as the test user to see the new changes.
